The guiding rule: Would J.K. Rowling ever consider letting this into her book?
The Harry Potter series may be "children's books",
but we can't ignore the fact that a lot of us are grownups. We
(some of us!) think like grownups, some of us even play grownups in the
room. So rather than beating around the bush, let's talk about how grown
up things are to be handled in this room, and prevent problems before they
start.
First this room is rated 14+, on Warp1's Canadian
rating system. Read the ratings system page if you
don't understand what this means. But to sum up, no explicit sex in the room.
That's what the Rating means. However
there is still the setting to
consider. Harry Potter is about wizards. Now wizards are people, and
people get crushes, and date, and even kiss, and that's fine. But if all
you are interested in is having your character fall in love, this is not the room for
you.
However, even if your character does
happen to eventually end up in a relationship, and you just have to get sexual,
please keep it to characters 16 AND OVER ONLY. Also, NO STUDENT PREGNANCIES.
This is Harry Potter, not an afternoon special.
Remember the guiding rule: do you really think JKR would ever write that into one of her books?
If you're just not happy roleplaying unless
your twelve year olds are getting it on, please keep it private, and
don't let us know about it.
Characters 18 and over may get pregnant,
however you should not do so with the intent of ever playing the child as a
student. You are expected to play at the pacing of the room, which moves very slowly,
and age any children only at the pace that time progresses in the roleplay.
With most
of us being mature, we're also capable of talking about the theme of
homosexuality. If you want to play a character who is attracted to
members of the same sex, that's all right too. You are expected
to obey all the rules heterosexual characters must
obey regarding your relationships. Furthermore if the
number of characters so inclined begins to become unrealistic, we will be forced
to change our stance. This room is not to become a slash fanfic room.
On that note, you may not change the assumed (ie
heterosexual) gender of any canon character. We're sorry but this qualifies in our book as too far of
a deviation from both genre and the canon character. Also..
we've heard rumor some of JKR's lawyers
have really made an issue of fanfics where this happens, so it's for
everyone's protection.
We apologize if you disagree or are offended by any of
these policies, but they represent what the hosts believe is the best compromise between all elements we wish to see in this room.
